The page module enables a trainer to create a web page resource using the text editor. A page can display text, images, sound, video, web links, and embedded code, such as Google maps.

Advantages of using the page module rather than the file module include the resource being more accessible (for example to users of mobile devices) and easier to update.

For large amounts of content, it's recommended that a book is used rather than a page.

All activities and resources are also available in the Totara Mobile app. Please note that activities and resources may work slightly differently in the Mobile app compared to on a desktop site. 

Adding a page

To compose a page:

  1. Click the Turn editing on button.
  2. Click Page from the Add a resource menu.
  3. Enter a name for the page.
  4. Write a Description if required.
  5. Create your web page content  using the text editor.
  6. Set the Appearance to display the page name and/or the page description. 
  7. Complete Common Module settings if required.
  8. Complete Restrict Access if required.
  9. Complete Activity Completion if required.
  10. Enter Tags if required.
  11. Click Save changes.

Examples of use

A page may be used:

  • To present the terms and conditions of a course or a summary of the course syllabus
  • To embed several videos or sound files together with some explanatory text

Plugin settings

If you go to Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > Page you can configure the site-wide settings. 

Remember to click Save changes once you are finished.


Select all options that should be available, existing settings are not modified. Hold CTRL key to select multiple fields.


Configure whether to display the page name above content.


Decide if you wish to display the page description above content.


Select display type:

  • Open
  • In pop-up

Specifies default width of popup windows.


Specifies default height of popup windows.
