Totara 12 will no longer be fully supported from October 2023. Urgently consider upgrading to a later version.

Help documentation for up-to-date versions is available here.

Common module settings are configurable options that appear for every activity and resource on the course page.

SettingDescriptionNotes
VisibleChoose whether your activity is visible to learners or not.Users with the capability /course:viewhiddencourses will be able to see and access any hidden course.
ID numberSetting an ID number provides a way of identifying the activity for grade calculation purposes. If the activity is not included in any grade calculation then the ID number field can be left blank. The ID number can also be set on the edit grade calculation page in the gradebook, though it can only be edited on the activity settings page.
Group modeThe group mode can be one of three levels:
  • No groups: There are no sub groups, everyone is part of one big community.
  • Separate groups: Each group can only see their own group, others are invisible.
  • Visible groups: Each group works in their own group, but can also see other groups.

The group mode defined at course level is the default mode for all activities within the course. Each activity that supports groups can also define its own group mode, though if the group mode is forced at course level, the group mode setting for each activity is ignored.

Group mode is not available on all activities.

Add group/grouping access restrictionTotara also enables the grouping of groups. Once you set up the grouping of groups within your course, then in activity settings you can allow/disallow certain groupings to have access to a resource/activity or not.See Groups for how to set up course groups and groupings
