PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT THEMES
The release of Totara Talent Experience Platform brought new products and technology to help manage learning and performance at scale. While we're always trying to bring new and improved experiences to our partners and subscribers, fundamental parts of Totara which are valued the most also require attention to provide all the freedoms Totara stands for.
- Upgrading and updating Totara core features means keeping the platform up to date with our partners' and subscribers' needs, which is an ongoing key focus.
With the increasing need to operate efficiently in an environment that has numerous tools serving employees across multiple locations, there is a need to extend connectivity and improve the integration with these tools.
- Integration with content providers to enable all learning sources accessible from one system.
- Integration with communication tools such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom brings learning to the flow of work and facilitates day-to-day workflows.
HIGHLY TRUSTED AND SCALABLE PLATFORM
One of the core principles of Totara is excellent performance at high scale and a range of contexts. Every Totara release goes through extensive performance, penetration and security testing to make sure that Totara performs for large-scale organizations and offers the security that our subscribers and partners trust. With more products on the Totara platform, we're undertaking a few initiatives to ensure the consistency in our software quality and support for increasingly complicated installations and large-scale deployments.
We will progressively expand the automated testing coverage of the Totara Platform to ensure new releases can be deployed quickly with assured quality and performance.

Agile Methodology and Stakeholder Engagement
Our mission is to change how learning technologies are developed, delivered and purchased. Our primary propositions of flexibility and cost leadership are underpinned by an open source technology strategy. Open source enables "demand-side innovation", which means we rely on engagement with our partners and subscribers to inform the technology needs of our customers. We do this through active community engagement, where new features and improvements are openly discussed, debated and refined as they are added to our backlog. Our community site is here.
Whilst having a clear product strategy is paramount, it is also critically important to maintain flexibility in defining the feature-set from version to version within a fast-changing environment. This is true for all software, but even more so in a collaborative partner network coalescing around an open source framework. In Agile, the focus is not on fulfilling a rigid long-term roadmap, it's on delivering business value on a consistent, iterative pattern. It’s incredibly difficult (if not actually impossible) to have high confidence yearly roadmaps at a granular level. Of course, the biggest advantage that there is in an Agile approach is summed up by the word agile – instead of trying to figure out right now what's going to be the top priority in a year (because we will all be wrong), we define what's important right now and deliver that business value as quickly as possible.
