Group Mode: The group mode can be one of three levels:

  • No groups: There are no sub groups, everyone is part of one big community.
  • Separate groups: Each group can only see their own group, others are invisible.
  • Visible groups: Each group works in their own group, but can also see other groups.

Group mode is not available on all activities.

Totara also enables the grouping of groups. Make sure your Totara Administration has enabled the 'Grouping' function (in Site Administration > Miscellaneous > Experimental options), so that this then appears when you set up groups in your course page. Once you set up the grouping of groups, then in activity settings you can allow/disallow certain groupings to have access to a resource/activity or not.

Visible: Sets if your activity is visible to learners or not.

ID number: Setting an ID number is a useful option to identify any activity for grade calculation purposes. If the activity is not included in any grade calculation then the ID number field can be left blank. The ID number can also be set on the edit grade calculation page in the gradebook, though once set it can only be edited on the update activity page.
